Bluescreen Compositing – A Practical Guide for Chroma Key Movie Maker

Most chroma key movie maker books are a waste of your money. It is mainly because if you’ve read one, you’ve read them all. So as a rule, I don’t usually buy them unless highly recommended by someone else. But after reading Bluescreen Compositing: A Practical Guide for Video & Moviemaking I couldn’t wait to get to my computer to write this review. It was the best training book on chroma key movie making that I’ve ever read and if you follow it, you will see results.

When I first skimmed the sales page for the book, I have to admit I almost didn’t buy it because the copy looked a little hyped up and pitchy. It sounded like all the rest.

But what drew me in was that the author kept emphasizing the same points I talk about on this site when it comes to chroma keying and the chroma key movie maker myths, so I became intrigued.

Still a bit skeptical, I purchased it anyway. However, I’m happy to tell you I was pleasantly surprised with its contents.

John Jackman takes us through the techniques of blue and green screen composition. He has made for us a simple course that explains how-to create effective scenes in a video format. He leads the reader step by step to make in video realistic composite scenes.

In the book, you will be introduced with the field of special effect composition. No need for special experience to recap the clear explanations of the technology and the craft for creating a visual that will work convincingly.

Though the book is written for video professionals it has good explanations could be understood by beginners too.

I have learned with this book, how the different types of keying techniques work. Next stage I have practice the technology miracle and got a practical understanding of the entire processes.

Your computer needs a firewire card(ieee1394) in it, then you need a firewire cord to connect your camera to your computer via the DV jack. Then use the software that came with the camera or Windows movie maker. I prefer Pinacle studio 9.
