It all depends on your budget. You can buy one or make it by yourself. If you intend to buy a green screen read about their benefits:
a. Look for buying a green chroma muslin that matches the program output.
b. Unlike homemade green screen minor wrinkles are not an issue.
c. It is a reflective cloth so you can rape it over people and objects while shooting your videos/photos.
d. It may come as a green chroma muslin kit with rings and some time with lights on the rings. It is not cheap. However, you will get a high level chroma key screen effects.
If you just don’t have a big enough budget, do not worry you’ll still get amazing results with green screen backdrops you will build by your own.
Chroma Key Screen – Blue or Green
Green screen is the new version of the blue chroma key screen effects. Nowadays, green is used because people are using cameras with compressed formats for video film called HDV and DV. For those formats, the green chroma muslin is the best way to key out your photos that will preserves the most color information.
Green will present your subject even sharper then when you look at them in-studio.
Blue screens were used in special effects because they were easy for key out. Blue is also the only color that is not used in skin tones. Blue is still used rarely especially if you cannot key blond hair color of your talented actor.
Green Chroma Muslin – My Best Location
When coming to decide the size of your green chroma muslin, the first thing I would consider is how much area of a colored background I need for my video/photo production. For some video production, a small area covered with green material held on auto-poles, and some spring clamps will be enough.
It is also important you will make sure that all areas around your subject are evenly lit. Make sure that the screen has no wrinkles near the area where the key process will take place. You should always remember that wrinkles are not your friend.
People with tight budget can use any small room or garage. Usually the walls are painted with white color. This white color on the walls has tendency to color the object you are filming much more greener.
If the room is not going to be the permanent home green screen studio then you should consider taking care of this problem with your lights. However, if you have set up a permanent tight space for your green chroma muslin, you might consider:
a. Covering/painting the walls with a flat black. When buying paint for your walls, make sure to specify that you need an interior flat paint
b. If you can, move to a larger location.
c. Use straw/tan gels over your lights to help neutralize the effect.
