Make Your Screen Using The Chroma Key Paint Formula

One quick way to have a low cost home green screen studio is by making your own chroma key screen. If the chroma key screen will be prepared and used properly in your studio it could be one of the most valuable assets in your special effect toolbox.

I use only chroma key paint formula. I use it for two different proposes in my home studio. The main usage is as the color of the chroma key screen. However, it could also be used for painting other objects on the set. You will paint these objects that you would like to hide out of your picture, and you could remove them during the editing process.

What Paint Do I Need?
Chroma key paint formula color can be found easily in hardware color stores online and offline too. It comes in two forms: Cans for liquid paint of one gallon or spray paint.

First I would like to send you a Warning – You probably can find spar green paint in your garage or backyard garden shed, please do not use it for your green screen painting, use only the special chroma key paint formula.

This special paint is made to isolate the specific color in the editing process and turn it transparent if it is not done in the correct way then you may have a problem on editing in the later stag. You can find blue colors too. However, today the green chroma key pain formula is leading.

The special chroma key pain formula has a matte color in order that it will not reflect light. Other green colors may have some shine in them and will make the keying process very difficult.

When you will lighten a reflective green screen it will create a lot of shads and could make your lightening job a very unbearable task.

In most cases Chroma key paint will cost more money than any other standard paint. However, this is the only material you should use to paint your screen.

Screen Painting
After you have bought the right chroma key pain formula I guess now is the time to start using it.

Painting the screen in green is an ordinary painting process, I am sure you have done it before for other things. In order to get the job done properly, you have got to apply an even coat to the surface and wait some time until it will dry. After it is dried, add a second coat.

Objects Painting
In some cases, depend on your video script and photo editing decisions you may decide that some objects on the set should not be seen on your video or photo. Either you don’t put them on stage or you use chroma key paint secrets.

Use the same chroma key paint to color all the objects that you are going to remove in the editing process. Of course you do not have to literally do that, just put a piece of a green cloth on the object, and it will be easily gone in the editing stage.

Minimize the number of objects because each object will create new shade and will add more work during the lighting and the keying process. Every new shade added by unnecessary objects will make work and worry about.

Foe example: Let’s say that you want the subject on your video to fly in the middle of the screen. Simple way to make it fly is by using a table and letting the subject is laying on. To make the table disappear from the frame you must cover or paint the table in the same green chroma key pain formula.
